It was a magical night. The organizing committee for the storytelling festival, some of the tellers and the audio guy met for a barbecue at our place.
The conversation was animated. All were enjoying themselves.
This year, our theme is One World – Many Voices. We are featuring stories from different cultures. Assembled on our front porch were representatives of a few countries.
I purposely left my guitar in a spot where it was easily seen. Matt, who is doing our sound, spotted it and got it out and started strumming it. It didn’t take Charly long to get out one of his many harmonicas. La’Ron followed with an odd-shaped drum. It is actually a cube that he sits on. The sound changes depending on where you hit it. Mark went to his car and brought back his mandolin and flute. Finally, one of Matt’s buddies arrived with his guitar.
Our little orchestra assembled, they jammed for over an hour. Everybody joined in when a familiar tune was recognized.
In spite of very different backgrounds and experiences, music intertwined our spirits as we joined together in song. The sum of our parts became one and it was beautiful.
Good food, good music and good friends. It was a perfect recipe for lifting all of our spirits.
