The Flood

This entry isn’t too original. It is mostly a joke that I heard in church many years ago.

A great flood came one spring and the water rose so high that people were forced to get on their roofs. Like many others, one woman climbed out the upstairs window and sat on her roof. Her faith was strong and she prayed that the Lord would save her.

A boat came along and asked her if they could help. Her reply was that the Lord would save her, so she didn’t need their help.

Later on, a helicopter came by and lowered a rope and asked her to climb aboard. Again, she refused saying that the Lord would save her.

By morning, the flood rose so high that the woman was swept off her roof and she drowned.

Up in heaven she asked God why he hadn’t saved her from her death. His reply was, “I sent you a boat and a helicopter. What more did you want me to do?”

Sometimes we have difficult times in our lives. There are people all around us who are willing and able to help, but we often don’t accept or recognize what they have to offer. We try to go it alone, when all along the help we need may be offered to us. We may even pray to God more fervently than ever without knowing he is sending agents to help us. We fail to see God working through others to guide us through our time of trouble.
