They call them reality shows even though most of them are closer to fantasy than reality.
How many men do you know who start with a dozen or so girlfriends and eliminate them one by one until only one remains? How many people do you know who go to a remote place in the earth to survive?
I think we need to start thinking up some different reality shows that deal with real-life situations.
In Find Osama, teams comb Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan for Osama Bin Laden. It is a bit like the Find Waldo books, but using a real person. The winners get $5 million.
Another show I would be interested in seeing is called Follow the Junk Mail. In this program, the television camera follows the lives of people who answered the person’s plea for them to help him get millions of dollars out of Nigeria. It lets you know what really happened to the person who forwarded an email for luck to seven of his friends. It shows you how rich the person became who believed that Bill Gates is giving away money for people who forward a message. It tells you what would really happen if you took the stock tips you get emails about. The list could go on and on about the possible episodes you could show.
One of my favourites would be The Substitute Teacher and the Class from Hell. We would get CEOs from some of the major corporations and let them be a substitute teacher for a day with some of the more difficult classes. A special version of the program would have Dr. Phil make a guest appearance. If they succeeded, valuable insights on working with students would be learned. If not, then a greater appreciation of what teachers face daily would be gained.
The final show would be How I Got My Job. It would give viewers the low-down on what really goes on behind the scenes when filling positions. Is the best candidate always chosen? How many get the job because of connections?
There you have it, my fall line-up for my network. Do you have any suggestions?
