Dear Friend

Dear friend,
I wish you were a near friend.
I don't know how many times I think every day
Of you so far away.
Well, what can I say?
Except I need a friend like you.

Daybreak,
That's the time of day my heart aches.
I sit and drink my coffee while my thoughts drift
And sift through memories
Of times spent with you.

But I can't dwell forever upon you,
No I must push myself forward to meet the new day.
There's a whole world to conquer,
I know I can do it,
But I return to emptiness each evening and I say ...

Dear friend,
I wish you were a near friend.
I'd like to have you close enough to say
How much you mean today.
I need a friend like you.
