Three Michigan Ladies

They came into our lives like a jack-in-the-box. We didn’t know them, and then suddenly they were there. We love them. We look forward to their next visit with great anticipation.

They are three widows from Michigan who have visited our bed and breakfast twice. What makes them so special?

All three speak in glowing terms of their former husbands. Although not there in person, they still seem to commune with their departed spouses.

All are devout Catholics, not the send-in-two-boxtops type. They take their faith seriously. Here is the key, though. Their beliefs bring them joy. They support each other. Each one is very different, yet their spirits reach out to each other and others. You can’t help but be caught up in their positive enthusiasm.

They haven’t just come to stay with us. They have openly shared their lives with us, including their feelings on many issues and situations. It seems as if we have known them for years. They are comfortable with themselves and are natural.

They teach me by example to be joyful and spread it everywhere. I can focus on what is wrong with the world or I can look at what is around me and marvel how it all fits together.

They have certainly blessed my life. I trust that I have reciprocated that blessing.
