Last spring we went to Italy. We spent time each day looking for the perfect gelato. If you ask some people what it is, they will reply that it is Italian ice cream. In my books, it is anything but ice cream.
First, many of the flavours are much more exotic than the strawberry, chocolate and vanilla we have. Lemon, melon, pistachio and hazelnut are among the many tastes of this treat from the gods.
The texture is different, too. Ice cream is soft and sticky. Gelato is smooth and creamy.
I could go on and on about the differences between the two, but it all boils down to this. If you give me the choice of having one or the other, it will be gelato every time.
Now, some of you may say that if you can’t have gelato, you have no problem settling for ice cream. On the surface, that sounds like a pretty wise statement.
However, do you want second best in your life? Do you want what you can enjoy when you could have what you want and enjoy it more? What if you could have the choice of having gelato every day of your life? Would you do what is necessary to have it? Have you looked at all the options of what you could do to make this happen? You could learn how to make your own. You could even consider moving to Rome. Before you settle for mere ice cream, make sure that you can’t have gelato. The answer is that you probably can if you try.
Once you have tasted gelato, do you want to go through life wishing you had it while you are having your ice cream? I don’t. I’m ready to go back to Italy and wander through the cities and towns continuing my search for the perfect gelato.
